I am the daughter of a very opinionated black Republican pastor father, and an, independent progressive former pastor mother. I grew up in the suburbs of Ohio and was routinely the "first" black person to cross many invisible barriers. This contributed to me becoming adept at operating in many spaces with confidence, and grace.
I was physically assaulted multiple times for being Black as a teenager. I have also experienced racially biased incidents at the hands of police which spurned my interest in police reform and policy. Leading me to get involved in political campaigns.
My tumultuous experience with Long COVID has provided me with first hand experience in some of the hurdles people of color face in the medical care system.
